4k Apprenticeship Grant - Hire People with Skills to Improve your Business

If you’ve been thinking about hiring an apprentice recently but aren’t sure if you want to take the plunge, now is the time to go for it. That is because the government’s apprenticeship grant scheme which could see your business receiving up to £4,000 in incentives for hiring an apprentice comes to an end at the end of September 2021, a date that is fast approaching.

What Apprentices Bring to the Table

Apprenticeships are an excellent way of bringing fresh talent into your business by hiring people who are willing and ready to learn as you embed them into your business and mould them into the worker you want them to be. Skills gaps within your business can be plugged this way and the longevity of your business is also bolstered as those apprentices you hire and train may eventually become managers or directors within your business in the future. Having a new pair of eyes in your workforce can also help to identify areas of the business that can be improved as they see things current workers may not realise about certain operations within the business.

  • 86% of employers said apprenticeships helped them develop skills relevant to their organisation
  • 78% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve productivity
  • 74% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve the quality of their product or service

How the Apprentice Grant Works

You can apply for any new apprentices that you have hired between the period of April 2021 to September 2021 and to do this you will need to set up an apprenticeship service account if you haven’t already. The £3,000 incentive payment is in addition to the £1,000 employers already receive for hiring an apprentice

  • Aged 16-18 years old
  • Aged 19-24 with an education, health and care plan or who has been in the care of their local authority

Which means you could receive up to £4,000 for hiring an apprentice. It is important to note that the apprentice must be employed for at least one year to receive the full payment. This payment can be used to support your organisations’ costs whether it’s work gear, the apprentices’ travel costs or office stationery, and you don’t need to pay it back either.

What are you Waiting for?

If the prospect of hiring an apprentice has got your mouth watering after reading this, then do not hang around as you only have till the end of September 2021 to make use of this grant.
